Ontario commercial licensing notes — updated for 2026.
This page exists to keep marketing claims separated from actual licensing and provider approvals.
Current high-level rules
- Full Class A applicants generally require approved mandatory entry-level training before the road test.
- Ontario states the Class A mandatory entry-level training program includes at least 103.5 hours of instruction.
- Class B/E school-bus applicants must complete an approved School Bus Driver Improvement Course and meet additional record/eligibility requirements.
- Class C is for regular non-school buses with more than 24 passenger seats; Class F covers regular non-school buses with 10–24 passenger seats and ambulances.
- Class D covers heavy trucks over 11,000 kg, subject to towing limits.
- As of May 11, 2026, applicants for Class A–F generally must document Ontario primary residence, legal presence in Canada and eligibility to work in Canada, with limited exceptions.
- Starting January 1, 2027, Class A road-test applicants must satisfy Ontario's new prior Class G-or-higher driving-experience rule.
