Class A Tractor-Trailer Training Pathway
For tractor-trailer combinations where the towed vehicle exceeds 4,600 kg. A Class A licence does not authorize driving a bus carrying passengers.

Eligibility & licensing
Typical pathway
- Be at least 18
- Hold an eligible Ontario licence (not G1/G2/M classes)
- Meet vision standards and submit the required medical report
- Pass the Class A knowledge test
- Complete approved mandatory entry-level training (MELT) when required
- Pass the road test in a qualifying Class A vehicle
Important: Ontario states that mandatory entry-level training for full Class A is at least 103.5 hours and must be delivered by an approved provider. Starting January 1, 2027, Class A road-test applicants must also satisfy the new prior Class G-or-higher driving-experience rule.
